The second open house for the Cedar Rapids Medical Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District - the 55-square-block medical district - is set for Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at UnityPoint Health-St. Lukes Hospital, 1026 A Avenue NE.
The event will be in the Heart Center Classroom, which is located on the third floor.
Consultants from Chicago-based Lakota Group, a land use and urban planning firm, will take questions from community members. Areas of discussion will focus on a preliminary vision for the district, including land use strategies, open space design concepts, streetscape design concepts, and district signage design concepts.
Community input gathered from the open house will inform the direction of the final MedQuarter Master Development Plan.
An open house was held in May, which featured a series of stations where attendees could talk about the medical district that runs from Fifth and Sixth Streets SE to 12th and 13th Streets SE in Cedar Rapids.
The MedQuarter is the result of Vision Cedar Rapids Downtown Framework Plan 2007 and the 2009 Neighborhood Planning Process, which developed districts to help downtown Cedar Rapids grow.
