The founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Mediacom Communications Corp. has been inducted into the Denver, Colo.-based Cable Hall of Fame.
Rocco Commisso, who took Mediacom private earlier this year, was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in ceremonies Tuesday at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's annual convention in Chicago.
The Cable of Fame was established in 1998 by the Denver-based Cable Center to celebrate the innovation and contributions of a select group of individuals who have profoundly impacted the cable business.
Commisso, in his acceptance speech, said his entrepreneurial spirit was fueled by the boundless opportunities he discovered after arriving in the United States as a 12-year old immigrant from Southern Italy. He also paid a special tribute to the collective efforts and daily commitment of Mediacom's 4,500 employees, thanking them for growing the company into the eighth-largest cable television company in the United States.
Middletown, N.Y.-based Mediacom is the dominant cable television supplier in Iowa, with offices in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and other communities. The company, in addition to providing cable TV, also offers high-speed Internet access and phone service.
Through Mediacom Business, the company offers broadband communications solutions that can be tailored to any size business.
