The Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative will be adopting a new brand name: Corridor Energy Cooperative beginning next month.
The new brand name was undertaken for several reasons: it reflects the evolving membership, promotes economic development and allows the organization to stay current in a changing energy landscape.
The change becomes official Dec. 8. A new website will be launched, signage and invoices and other materials will reflect the new branding. The ownership structure, rates and services remain unchanged.
The cooperative’s service territory has changed significantly since the organization was founded in 1938, and more than 65 percent of members live within city limits and more than half of the customer base is in Johnson County.
“As we compete to attract large loads to lower costs for all our members, removing ‘rural’ from our name will help us better position ourselves to engage with business and industry,” the company said in a member communication.
The cooperative services more than 33,000 members in portions of Linn, Johnson, Jones, Cedar, Iowa and Benton counties.
