Keystone IT buys downtown I.C. wireless ISP system

Keystone IT Inc. of Iowa City has acquired the assets of a Technology Telecommunications Systems, a wireless Internet service provider in downtown Iowa City.

Keystone IT acquired the company's assets and book of business with plans to expand the marketing and eventually the service territory of the wireless network, vice president and General Manager Mike McKay said.

The fixed-wireless ISP network is capable of offering download speeds of 50 Mbps, and quite a few customers are subscribed at the 20 Mbps level, McKay said.

Keystone IT is a commercial reseller for land line-based Internet service providers CenturyLink, Mediacom and

Windstream. McKay said the wireless ISP service will be able to match the data speeds of the land line providers at a lower price in areas where the service is available.

"We had quite a few clients already using them," McKay said.

The service is currently limited to areas of downtown Iowa City. McKay said future expansion will try to reach areas of Coralville that have relatively slow speed Internet service.

Keystone IT's other services include security systems, data backup, Voice over Internet Protocol phone systems and network services. The company is owned by McKay, son Pat McKay and daughter-in-law Renae McKay.

Keystone IT, Inc. has purchased the assets of Technology Telecommunications

Systems. With this purchase, Keystone IT now has control over the provision of very

high speed wireless connections to businesses in the downtown Iowa City area. The

high speed wireless connections have identical download and upload speeds at prices

that are significantly lower than wired connections at the same speeds.

Keystone IT is also a commercial reseller for CenturyLink, Mediacom and

Windstream. This means that when a business wants a quote for new service or an

upgrade, Keystone IT will handle everything from quoting, to installation, to service.

All at no extra cost to the customer.
