Java Creek Café in Cedar Rapids has recently changed hands.
Veronica Borman and Lee Ulrich, owners of Just Brew It Inc., purchased the café and catering business from Integrated Ideas Inc. on May 25 and began managing the business on May 26, according to Maurie Cashman, president of Aspen Grove Investments Inc., dba Sunbelt Business Advisors, who represented Integrated Ideas in the transaction.
Cedar Rapids residents Tyler Altenhofen and Dean Weber operated the store since 2007 after purchasing it from Nordstrom Oil Co. Inc.
Altenhofen and Weber changed the business to bridge the gap between the small coffee houses and the high volume bakery concepts, based on the principle of delivering a large variety of gourmet coffees and pairing them with high end sandwiches, salads and bakery items.
The business was later expanded to include a catering operation, licensing and offers live entertainment on the weekends. Their other restaurant concept BBQ This! was sold in December of 2011 allowing Altenhofen and Weber to pursue a new business venture on the East Coast.
The 2,900-square-foot cafe is located at 588 Boyson Rd NE in the shopping plaza at the corner of Boyson Road and C-Ave NE.
The transaction was financed by Bryan Kubik, Vice President of Commercial Lending with Kerndt Brothers Savings Bank Cedar Rapids office.
