Iowa unemployment rate unchanged in October

Iowa's unemployment rate remained unchanged in October, despite modest signs of an easing job market.
The seasonally adjusted October unemployment rate of 6 percent compared favorably to the October 2010 rate of 6.2 percent, and was well below the national unemployment rate of 9 percent.
Iowa Workforce Development Director Teresa Wahlert was encouraged by a gain of 2,300 in nonfarm jobs in October, which lifted statewide employment to 1,484,400. She said the improvement allays fears of another recession and raises hopes for a stronger hiring pattern in the final months of the year.
