IOWA CITY - The City Council has approved an agreement that will give a private developer $950,000 to construct a medical office building.
The money will go to MDK Development, a group of local developers, for a 14,850-square-foot building planned for the corner of Muscatine Avenue and William Street in the Towncrest neighborhood of eastern Iowa City.
MDK is headed by Mike Hodge, Dave Hodge and Kevin Digmann.
City officials say the project fits with their goal of revitalizing that neighborhood.
The council vote Tuesday night was 6-1, with Jim Throgmorton against.
Construction could start on the $5 million medical office building this fall and be finished next year, MDK has said. Occupancy would begin in September 2013.
