Iowa City approves liquor license for downtown bar Summit

IOWA CITY – The City Council approved a liquor license Tuesday night for the Summit Restaurant and Bar, paving the way for new ownership for the downtown establishment.
Christopher “Topher” Wanek of Des Moines has said his purchase of the Summit, 10 S. Clinton St., would be finalized after a liquor license was approved.
The bar has been owned by Mike Porter, who filed for bankruptcy for the Summit and two other downtown establishments last year.
The liquor license application was part of the council's consent calendar, which includes a number of relatively routine items generally decided with one vote and no discussion, as was the case Tuesday.
