Iowa approves aid for DuPont Pioneer, Dubuque projects

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board on Friday approved financial assistance for major expansion projects in Dubuque and Johnston as well as funding for a Coralville business.
Progressive Processing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hormel Foods, was awarded $240,000 in direct financial assistance as well as tax benefits to expand a plant that makes microwave meals and canned chunk chicken.
Progressive Processing plans to add capacity to manufacture two additional products. The $36 million project will create 91 jobs.
DuPont Pioneer was awarded tax benefits for the first phase of a $49.9 million expansion at the company's Johnston campus.
The $28 million capital investment will purchase new technology and equipment as well as add 26,500 square feet to the Mendel Controlled Growth Environment building. The project is expected to create 105 jobs.
Kamath Biosciences, a new beverage manufacturer in Coralville, was awarded a $75,000 royalty through the Iowa Demonstration Fund for marketing purposes.
Kamath Biosciences provides innovative fitness beverages to the market under the brand name Cardiostrong. The beverage is a scientifically formulated performance and wellness drink that contains body performance enhancing supplements specifically designed to improve physical performance and improve cardiac health.
Genesis Systems Group of Davenport was awarded tax benefits for a $4 million capital investment comprised of purchasing a building, manufacturing machinery and equipment. The project is expected to create nine jobs and retain two jobs.
Genesis Systems Group specializes in factory automation of robotic assembly and handling systems for welded, mechanical and adhesive assembly processes and machine tending applications.
