Investors should receive their 1099-B and 1099-S forms from their financial institutions by Feb. 15 this year.
The deadline for investment firms to provide 1099 forms to clients for many years was Jan. 31, but changed several years ago. Form 1099-B relates to sales of stock, bonds or mutual funds through a brokerage account. Forms 1099-S relate to real estate transactions.
Taxpayers have until April 17 this year to file their federal tax returns, the IRS said. The IRS encourages taxpayers to e-file as it is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds.
