Indoor go kart track coming to Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - Two local couples plan to open an indoor go kart track near Lindale Mall soon as they seek to bring new 'family-friendly” entertainment to the area.
'We're doing single-kart and double-kart rides for people of all ages. We just want to create a family-friendly, affordable venue for the Cedar Rapids-Marion area,” said Shelly McNulty, co-owner of Speedeezz Indoor Karting.
Speedeezz is expected to open in early August at 4750 Tama St. SE, just east of Lindale Mall. But McNulty said they have not scheduled an opening day.
Drivers will race around the track using electric karts that go about 20 miles per hour. Speedeezz employees will be able to manually control the karts' speeds, if needed, to allow for slower races, she said.
McNulty said she, her husband, Duane, and the other couple, Darrell and Carla Long, have mulled over the idea for a go kart track for about 10 years. One of her business partners, she said, used to race at Hawkeye Downs as her husband, a diesel mechanic, helped.
'We've been working on it solidly for a good year. We feel like it's a good idea. We feel it's something the community needs,” McNulty said.
Speedeezz will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The company's Facebook page or website, https://speedeezzindoorkarting.com/, will have updates on the opening.
