Independence radiator plant adding workers, boosting production

An Independence factory is planning to expand its work force by 30 percent to boost production.

L&M Radiator, 700 17th St. SE, employs 95 to manufacture heavy-duty radiators and heat exchangers under the brand name of Mesabi.

Dan Chisholm, company president, said the goal is to add more manufacturing positions by late September and by the end of the year.  The positions will be primarily entry level for applicants with demonstrated mechanical abilities.

"We are very pleased with our decision to locate a plant in Independence six years ago," Chisholm said. "The state of Iowa and the City of Independence have been very cooperative in helping us locate and expand here, and the work force has quickly learned our manufacturing processes and is highly motivated."
