Incentives awarded for expansion at Cedar Rapids Heinz soup plant
A proposed $10.9 million upgrade to the H.J. Heinz soup plant in southwest Cedar Rapids became closer to reality Thursday with the award of state incentives.
The H.J. Heinz Co. and subsidiaries were awarded direct incentives of $100,000 and refundable investment tax credits for a project under consideration that would create about 31 jobs, according to the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
The project includes a 8,000 square foot expansion for a research and development lab and a bulk chemical storage facility. It also includes building improvement for production equipment.
