CEDAR RAPIDS — ImOn Communications, the Cedar Rapids-based provider of fiber-to-home Internet services, has announced it added 47,000 residential and business addresses to its fiber network in 2023.
The company also noted it gave more than $520,000 to nonprofits, community programs and initiatives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Dubuque last year.
The addition of 47,000 addresses brings ImOn’s total serviceable addresses to 138,000. For comparison, the company’s 2022 expansion added 25,000 addresses, the company said in a news release.
The 2023 expansion involved laying 1.7 million linear feet of fiber Internet cables in new and existing service areas.
ImOn invested heavily in its existing Cedar Rapids network, adding more than 17,000 new addresses. The company also added over 21,000 addresses in Dubuque, where it is the sole fiber Internet provider.
The year also marked the completion of ImOn’s fiber construction in Iowa City and Coralville.
“It’s difficult to overstate how monumental 2023 was for us,” Patrice Carroll, president and CEO of ImOn, said in a statement.
“I am so proud of the entire ImOn team, as well as the contractors, partners and vendors who made this aggressive growth possible. We also owe endless gratitude to our customers.”
ImOn in 2023 also moved into the Sioux City market with the acquisition of FiberComm.
In December, ImOn built a fiber network in Dakota Dunes, a neighborhood in South Dakota along the Missouri River.
That work marked ImOn’s first fiber network outside the state of Iowa and the beginning of ImOn’s residential services in Siouxland — an area that encompasses northwestern Iowa, northeastern Nebraska, and southeastern South Dakota.
ImOn intends to continue work in Siouxland this year and has growth goals in other markets, including Marshalltown, and completing work in the Cedar Rapids metro area and Dubuque by year’s end, according to the news release.
Giving
ImOn in 2023 gave $520,000 to their service areas through the ImOn Gives program, supporting more than 130 organizations. The company also became the naming sponsor for the ImOn Arena — previously known as the Dubuque Arena, home of the Dubuque Fighting Saints hockey team.
ImOn also installed more than 12 free public Wi-Fi locations, including Lowe Park in Marion. The city of Marion also has partnered with ImOn to bring free Internet service to several of the city’s most popular parks.
Employees
The company now has more than 200 employees and “is rapidly nearing 250,” according to the news release. ImOn was also named a Top Workplace in Iowa by the Des Moines Register for the second consecutive year.
To accommodate its growing staff, ImOn expanded its corporate headquarters in the historic People’s Bank Building, 101 Third Ave. SW, moving its customer care office to that building’s first floor.
