A 'low model' fitness center that offers month-to-month memberships will open its second location next fall in southwest Cedar Rapids.
iGYM, which opened in December 2013 at 1100 Blairs Ferry Road NE, will lease a new 12,000-square-foot building at 2725 Edgewood Parkway SW. A building that formerly housed Samurai Sam's Teriyaki Grill will be demolished, according to Curtis Meier, iGYM owner and sales director at the Midwest Athletic Club (MAC).
'An investor has bought the land and hopes to salvage as much of the parking lot as possible,' Meier said. 'The new iGYM will mirror our existing location in terms of its size, layout and the equipment. It will operate very similar to our existing iGYM.'
iGYM is part of the 'MAC' family that operates fitness centers with a number of additional amenities and require a membership commitment. Meier said iGYM is designed to make it convenient and affordable for everyone to incorporate health and fitness into their everyday lives.
'We will offer over 100 pieces of cardiovascular and strength training machines,' he said. 'We will have a full body circuit training line, strength and functional training areas, and group exercise classes.'
Meier said a majority of iGYM's existing customers live in northeast Cedar Rapids. He said the southwest side location, which is expected to open by Nov. 1, 2016, also will serve customers who travel from their homes in northwest and southwest Cedar Rapids to Rockwell Collins and other employers on the northeast side.
iGYM offers a basic rate of $14.95 per month, which includes the use of all fitness equipment. A VIP rate of $19.95 per month also includes 40 percent off all fitness bars, drinks and apparel and free group exercise classes.
