Hy-Vee unveils plan for new store at Tower Terrace

Hy-Vee Stores Inc. unveiled plans Tuesday night for a proposed store at C Avenue and the future Tower Terrace Road.

Hy-Vee's current store near Lindale Mall "is an excellent store with a great customer following," Hy-Vee spokeswoman Ruth Comer said. "We want to be able to offer those customers more, and we can't do it at that location."

Comer said Hy-Vee's plans would add many amenities that don't fit on the site of the current Lindale store, including a Hy-Vee convenience store and carwash.

To build the new Hy-Vee store at the southwest corner of C Avenue NE and the future Tower Terrace Road, Hy-Vee has asked rezoning approval from the City of Cedar Rapids for a 35-acre parcel owned by residential developer Butschi Real Estate from a R-2 residential classification to a C-2 commercial classification. The company plans to buy and occupy only 12-13 acres of that land.
