Hy-Vee to offer benefits for part-time workers
May. 2, 2018 1:53 pm
Hy-Vee will start offering health insurance and other benefits to its part-time employees, the grocery chain said Wednesday.
The West Des Moines-based company said it would start offering the benefits as a way to recruit and keep employees.
'Benefits are an important component to the health and satisfaction of our employees. This program is unique in our industry and differentiates us from other retailers, while improving the lives of our employees,” Sheila Lang, Hy-Vee's chief administrative officer and executive vice president, said in a news release.
The benefits will be available to any of the 58,000 part-time employees aged 19 years or older who works at Hy-Vee or the company's subsidiary, Midwest Heritage bank. Spouses and dependents also would be covered.
The elective benefit options include health, dental, short-term disability, vision, group life, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, individual life and disability, auto, homeowners and renters, and pet insurance coverage.
Medical insurance plans would start at $200 a month, Hy-Vee said.
Hy-Vee operates 245 stores in eight states, including 11 in Cedar Rapids, two in Marion, one in Coralville and four in Iowa City. It is also building a second store in Coralville at 3285 Crosspark Road.
