Hy-Vee is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of no-salt-added black beans across its eight-state region due the potential presence of plastic and/or metal pieces in the product.
The West Des Moines-based company on Wednesday said the recall is limited to 15-ounce cans of Hy-Vee No-Salt-Added Black Beans with the code 'Best By 04 APR 2019 258F2 095 16 XXXX” and UPC number of 0075450105190.
The beans were sold at Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin between April 22, 2016, and July 18, 2016.
The presence of small pieces of plastic and/or metal has the potential to cause a choking hazard and may cause adverse health consequences, including injury. Hy-Vee said no injuries have been reported in connection with the product.
Hy-Vee said in a news release the potential for contamination was discovered after Faribault Foods, Hy-Vee's supplier, announced it was issuing a recall after a consumer reported finding a partial ink pen in one container.
The product was manufactured at the company's Faribault, Minn., facility, which supplies several major retailers across the United States. Hy-Vee said Faribault Foods has determined that it was an isolated incident.
Customers who purchased the product should discard it or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Hy-Vee Customer Care representatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week toll free at (800) 772-4098.
