Horsfield wins roadway safety award for E-34 paving project

Horsfield Construction of Epworth has won a National Roadway Safety Award from the Federal Highway Administration and United States Department of Transportation for a concrete overlay on County Road E-34 in Jones and Linn counties.

The project in 2010 was the first concrete paving job in the United States to be built with a 30-degree safety edge on the outside edge of the roadway, according to a statement released by the company.

The National Roadway Safety Awards is a biennial competition sponsored by the Department of Transportation and the Roadway Safety Foundation to recognize roadway safety achievements that move the United States "toward zero deaths." It highlights exemplary roadway safety efforts and publicizes noteworthy practices.
