Home sales up in state, Corridor

CEDAR RAPIDS - Home sales rose throughout the Corridor and state during September.
Statewide, home sales inched up 0.6 percent in September when compared with the same month last year, according to the Iowa Association of Realtors. The report shows that 3,191 homes were sold in September 2014 compared with 3,172 homes sold in September 2013.
The number of Cedar Rapids homes sold also rose slightly - increasing about 0.57 percent year-over-year, from 350 homes sold in September 2013 to 352 sold last month, according to the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors. The Iowa City Area Association of Realtors reported 190 homes were sold in September 2014, up 4.9 percent from the 181 sold in September 2013.
The median sale price of an Iowa home rose 1.6 percent, increasing from $131,950 in September 2013 to $134,000 in September 2014.
In Cedar Rapids, the median sale price dropped 3.5 percent from $149,600 in September 2013 to $144,350 in September 2014. There was a 7 percent jump in median home prices in the Iowa City area, with prices rising from $167,000 in September of last year to $178,750 last month.
Days on the market before a house was sold improved by 1 day from a year ago. The average number of days on the market in September 2014 was 80.
