Heartland Express names ISU's Tahira Hira to board

Heartland Express Inc. has appointed Tahira Hira, executive assistant to the presidnet at Iowa State University, to its board of directors.
Hira is professor of personal finance and consumer economics in addition to her position in the ISU president's office. She has served as the associate vice provost for ISU Extension and has taught and conducted research in family financial management, investing, consumer credit, gambly and consumer bankruptcy in the United States and abroad.
"We are pleased to have Tahira join our Board of Directors," said Michael Gerdin, Chairman and CEO of North Liberty-based Heartland Express. "Tahira brings extensive financial expertise and leadership skills to our Board. She has received numerous awards and recognition for outstanding academic and research achievements. Tahira's background and expertise will benefit the current and future shareholders of Heartland Express."
Hira received B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from Punjab University, Pakistan, and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1973, and a Ph.D. in 1976 in Family and Consumer Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has been employed by Iowa State University since 1980
