The Iowa Dept. of Economic Development just announced that Washington County has received a $468,268 federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that will allow HACAP to rehabilitate a building at Washington County's Orchard Hill campus in Washington for two Head Start preschool classrooms, HACAP's food pantry, and the local service offices. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation provided HACAP with a $40,000 grant last year for the project.
Currently, the classrooms are located across Lexington Blvd. at HACAP's Old Main facility. The vacated classroom space is intended to become additional low-income family housing. The Old Main facility currently has 12 apartments.
The East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) wrote the grant application and will administer the project. The grant award is pending, awaiting approval from Washington County.

The City of Wayland this Spring was awarded a $255,000 CDBG grant for water distribution system improvements.
These are all important community betterment projects in the greater Washington County area.
