Groupon discount Web site targets Corridor

The web-based shopping web site Groupon has begun offering products and services in the Corridor.
Groupon uses collective buying principles to negotiate discounts with businesses. Subscribers get daily e-mails alerting them to the deals.
The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging subscribers to spread the word about the promotions. The company said its upcoming deals would include theatre tickets and ceramic-painting studio bargains.
The Corridor is the first Iowa market in which Groupon has begun marketing its service.
“Encompassing the vibrant city of Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa's campus in Iowa City, this market is an ideal match for the Groupon model,” Groupon President Rob Solomon said.
