Go Daddy offers one-month bill credits in outage apology

Go Daddy is offering customers affected by a widespread service interruption on its network a one-month bill credit in an effort to keep them from deserting.
A large number of websites hosted by Go Daddy were down Monday morning and early afternoon in an intermittent outage that lasted about six hours. Reports had already circulated widely that the company's servers had succumbed to a denial of service attack from hackers, but Go Daddy said Tuesday that hackers were not the problem - its own network was.
Go Daddy CEO Scott Wagner sent an email that at least some customers received Wednesday morning offering the bill credit for each active or published site the customer has with Go Daddy.
"We let you down and we know it," Wagner wrote.
Go Daddy officials did not immediately respond to a Gazette request for more information about the refund offer that could likely cost the company millions, and which customers would receive it. Customers were given seven days in which to activate their refund request.
Go Daddy, which has a growing customer service center in Hiawatha, blamed the outage on "internal network events that corrupted router data tables."
The company said it's implemented a series of measures to address the problem.
