General Dynamics confirms Coralville layoffs
Mar. 31, 2017 4:30 pm
General Dynamics is cutting its staff in Coralville, the company confirmed Friday.
'We are consolidating our workforce that provides contact center support in Coralville, Iowa,” the company said in an emailed statement. 'Work will continue at this location in support of our customers. We regret the impact this will have on our employees and their families.”
The Falls Church, Va.-based company notified employees on Thursday.
General Dynamics did not answer questions about how many employees would lose their jobs as part of the consolidation.
The company came to Coralville when it acquired Vangent Holding, a provider of health care information technology and business systems, in 2011. Vangent operated a call center in Coralville to handle customer service calls for Medicare and Medicaid under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in addition to other programs.
Under the acquisition, Vangent became a part of General Dynamics IT.
General Dynamics is an aerospace and defense business, with its IT division providing information technology and other business services to customers.
The company reported about 600 employees at the Coralville call center in 2013. It also has offices in West Des Moines, according to its most recent annual report.
