Frew Development Group to manage Cedar Rapids bus depot renovation

Frew Development Group LLC, the firm that managed the city's hotel, arena and convention center project, has been hired by the City Council to manage the renovation of the flood-damaged Ground Transportation Center bus depot.

The city sought proposals from construction management firms from which to make a selection.

Frew Development Group, with offices in Denver, Colo., and Cedar Rapids, also is the developer for the $90 million Westdale Mall transformation.

Frew Development Group will receive up to $349,920 for its management work on the bus depot project, a $10.5 million project. The project is being funded with $7.4 million from the Federal Transit Administration, $1.5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $1.6 million in revenue from the city's local-option sales tax, according to the city.

The city hopes to have the depot open yet this year, though associated street and streetscape work will carry over into next year, Brad DeBrower, the city's transit manager, said on Tuesday.
