Clay Jones, former Rockwell Collins chairman, president and CEO, will retire as a director and non-executive chairman of the board on July 31.
Jones, who retired as Rockwell Collins' CEO on July 31, 2013, will be succeeded as non-executive chairman by Anthony Carbone, an independent director and longtime member of the Rockwell Collins board of directors. Carbone was appointed non-executive chairman effective Aug. 1.
Jones joined Rockwell International in 1979 after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was appointed president of Rockwell Collins in January 1999, and became CEO in June 2001 after leading the company through its initial public offering.
Jones has been a member of the board since March 2001 and assumed the role of chairman in 2002.
'We are grateful for the valuable leadership that Clay has provided to the board of directors over the past 12 years, during which time he successfully guided our company to a pre-eminent position in the aerospace and defense industry,” Carbone said. 'I am looking forward to working with our board members and the leadership team of Rockwell Collins to continue growing the company and delivering value to our shareholders.”
Carbone has been a Rockwell Collins director since June 2001. He serves as lead independent director and chairman of the compensation committee and will continue to serve as chairman of the executive committee.
Carbone served as vice chairman of the board of directors of Dow Chemical Co. from February 2000 to October 2005.
Kelly Ortberg succeeded Jones as president and CEO of Rockwell Collins. Ortberg also is a member of the board of directors.
