Former Hupp Electric owner Bob Hupp dies

Robert "Bob" Hupp of Cortez, Fla., former  president, chairman and owner of Hupp Electric Motors in Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 21, in Florida.

Hupp began working for his father, Julian, at Electric Motor Co. in the 1960s. The father and son changed the name of the business to Hupp Electric Motors, and in 1971 Bob Hupp purchased it.

Hupp Electric Motors, 275 33rd Ave. SW, services and rebuilds electric motors in Cedar Rapids. Rober Hupp purchased the business, by then renamed Hupp Electric Motors, in 1971. He bought Powerlift, the Toyta forklift dealership for the majority of Iowa and northwest Illinois, in 1982.

Bob Hupp retired in 2005 and sold both his businesses to his son, Kevin Hupp.  Hupp Electric employs about 200, selling its services and products throughout the Midwest.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Robert Hupp from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 22, at the Elks Lodge, 801 33rd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids.
