Finishing Touch Custom Woodworks expands to Iowa City

No day is ever the same for Jonathon Cole, owner of Finishing Touch Custom Woodworks. He’s typically interacting with clients, builders and contractors to keep their building schedules moving forward.

And he has worked to take this past year in stride.

“The pandemic is just another hurdle, and there is always a hurdle in front of any growing business,” he said one day this past week.

Thanks to increasing customer interactions around Iowa City, Cole decided to expand his business from its home base in Eldridge, where it started in 2004, and open a showroom in Iowa City.

“Most of our business is done in the Quad Cities and Iowa City-Solon areas,” Cole said. “However, we’ve done business in Chicago and as far away as Michigan.”

Now, the Iowa City showroom is a spot for Corridor customers to look at all the business’ offerings, Cole said.

Finishing Touch has a staff of 11.

Its staff works on projects ranging from bars and laundry rooms, to bathroom vanities and entire kitchens in both new construction and residential remodeling. Cole said employees occasionally work on unique commercial projects as well, such as restaurant builds.

Cole noted that Finishing Touch is a full-service custom cabinet and woodworking shop.

“We help with design, provide 3D drawings and professional consultation,” he said. “All our builds and finishing are done in-house by our highly skilled team, including staining, painting, thus creating a truly distinctive custom product of the highest quality.”

Finishing Touch staff also can assist with interior design, counter tops and handle hardware.

“It is in the details,” Cole said.
