A privately-owned Iowa supermarket chain has launched a digital coupon system that eliminates the need to clip paper coupons or carry loyalty cards.
Fareway Stores of Boone, with several locations in the Corridor, recently began using a system developed by Invisipon Inc. of Gainsville, GA. The system enables manufacturer and private-label coupons from a customer's mobile device, such as a smartphone, to be redeemed automatically at the checkout.
Scott Beckwith, Fareway's chief administrative officer, said in a news release that the coupons are customized to each user based on their profile and redemption history.
Customers can view the offers available to them by downloading the Invisipon app or visiting Invisipon.com, and creating a brief user profile. At the checkout, the cashier will scan a bar code from the mobile app or key in the user's phone number and coupons will be applied to the grocery bill.
The Invisipon system will allow Fareway customers to take advantage of an estimated $800 per year in savings recognized by each household that uses manufacturer's coupons.
Fareway operates 112 stores located in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
