Express store closed in Iowa City's Old Capitol center

IOWA CITY - Apparel retailer Express closed its store in Iowa City's Old Capitol Town Center last week.
The chain decided suddenly not to renew its lease at the downtown mall when it expired at the end of January, according to Old Capitol Town Center Manager Kevin Digmann.
“Even into December, we thought they were renewing their lease,” Digmann said.
Express has other Corridor stores in Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville and in Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids. Calls to the company's headquarters were not immediately returned.
Digmann said Old Capitol Town Center has received interest in the space from other prospective tenants, but has not leased it.
