A seminar on environmental roof for commercial and industrial facilities will be offered Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Coe College.
D.C. Taylor Co. and the Regional Sustainable Business Alliance of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce will offer the seminar from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus.
The seminar will offer information on the many ways in which a commercial roofing systems work toward the goal of a sustainable built environment. The goals are outlined in the sustainable roofing guidelines developed by a committee of the National Roofing Contractors Association.
The free seminar is designed for facilities managers, contractors, roofers, engineers, designers, architects and energy efficiency raters, according to a statement from D.C. Taylor Co.
“Few elements of modern construction have as great an impact on long-term sustainability as roofs,” said Brent Taylor, director of service product development for D. C. Taylor Co. “In addition to saving energy, roofs also provide an attractive platform for the deployment of sustainable energy technologies; including solar and wind power, and serve as the ‘first responder' to critical environmental impacts such as heat island effects, air pollution, and storm water runoff.”
D. C. Taylor Co. is a founding member of the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing (CEIR). RoofPoint is a roofing-specific green building rating system developed by CEIR and is designed to promote an environmentally responsible built environment. The presentation will highlight the criteria and methodology incorporated into RoofPoint.
Presenter James L. Hoff currently serves as research director for the Center for Enviornmental Innovation in Roofing, Washington D.C., and is president of TEGNOS Research Inc., which focuses on advanced research in the building envelope industry.
