CEDAR RAPIDS - Going through airport security sometimes can be a real headache, but there is one way Eastern Iowa travelers can fast-track their way through the line.
The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids will have a temporary enrollment center for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration's Precheck expedited security screening program from Nov. 13 through Nov. 17.
The TSA Precheck program enables identified low-risk air travelers to have a more efficient screening experience.
Travelers enrolled in the program are not required to remove their shoes, light outerwear or belts when going through security screening. They also can leave their laptop computers and liquid 3-1-1 bags inside their carry-on luggage.
The TSA has in excess of 400 Precheck lanes at more than 200 airports in the United States.
To apply for the program, travelers must complete a pre-enrollment process online, then go to the application center at the airport to provide biographical information, such as name, address, date of birth.
Applicants also will be required to provide their fingerprints and valid identity and citizenship/immigration documentation at the airport. The TSA charges a non-refundable fee of $85 for a five-year membership.
The fee can be paid by credit card, money order, company check or certified or cashier's check. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted.
While pre-enrollment online is recommended, walk-in applications also will be accepted.
Approved applicants will receive a known traveler number, or KTN, that can be used when making airline reservations.
The application center at the Eastern Iowa Airport will be located in the Donald D. Swanson executive conference room, located across from baggage claim in the terminal. The facility will be open next week from 8 a.m., to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
A complimentary parking voucher will be provided for those coming to the airport to apply for the program.
