CEDAR RAPIDS - For the second time this year, the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission has approved an agreement with a ride-hailing service provider - this time with Uber.
The commission on Monday approved the agreement with Raiser LLC, operating as an Uber contractor in the agreement. The agreement mirrors a similar contract the Eastern Iowa Airport signed earlier this year with transportation network company Lyft.
Per the agreement, Uber will pay the commission a one-time $1,000 permit fee to operate at the airport and an additional $2 per pickup fee, paid monthly.
The rules also implement a geo-fence that sets up a virtual boundary around the airport. Transportation network company drivers are prohibited from the airport property within the boundary, unless they have arranged a customer pickup or drop-off.
Ride-hailing companies will add to other transportation options at the airport that include taxi services, shuttles and limousines.
