Dubuque to Create Industrial Park South
Mar. 27, 2012 5:58 pm
Dozens of businesses have expanded to Dubuque's Industrial Center West in the past several years.
The city now plans to spend five and a half million dollars to build another industrial park just a couple of miles away.
That park will be near the intersection of Siepple Road and Highway 20.
For 85 years the Dubuque based Theisen family has run 18 farm and auto stores throughout the mid-west.
When it was time to expand the company's supply center, staying close to home was must.
Jim Theisen said, "We wanted to stay in Dubuque because our core people are from Dubuque. "
That's why the Theisens expanded the company headquarters in Dubuque's Industrial Park West.
Theisen said, "it's very very nice out here. "
Dozens of other companies followed suit.
Now the city of Dubuque is hoping to build off that success.
Economic Development Director Dave Heiar said, "It's really a continuation of the of the progress and the momentum we have going that we hope to maintain. "
The city already owns this 125 acre farm land. Crews will soon begin building the needed infrastructure.
Just like they did for the business owners who built in the Industrial Park West, city leaders will offer tax breaks for the new industrial park tenants.
Heiar said, "if a company comes in and is willing to create at least 10 new jobs then we would look at discounting that price to reward them. "
The Theisens are once again, expanding in park and say they're running of space. Theisen says there's almost no more room left in this park.
Theisen says bring on another industrial park.
