Downtown Parking Updates for Week of June 27

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE___________________________________ Cedar Rapids, IA-June 28, 2011- Cedar Rapids Parking has released the following parking update to assist patrons of downtown Cedar Rapids during the week of June 27 and over the 4th of July holiday weekend:

Paramount Theatre Ground Breaking Ceremony (June 29 at 1 p.m.; under the marquee at 123 3rd Avenue SE). Patrons planning to attend are encouraged to use the long-term metered spaces available in the Ground Transportation Center and 4th Avenue parking ramps (both ramps can be entered off 4th Avenue SE). On-street metered parking will also be available.

Celebration of Freedom Fireworks (July 4 at 9:40 p.m., downtown Cedar Rapids). Parking will be available in the 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue and GTC parking ramps for $1 per vehicle; rooftop viewing will be available in designated areas. Parking in Lot 44 (on the corner of 8th Avenue and 2nd Street SE) will also be $1. On-street metered parking will be free. Cedar Rapids Parking staff will be on hand to help parking patrons access their preferred viewing location and to answer questions.

First Street parking ramp demolition The on-street monthly spaces on the block faces immediately adjacent to the 1st Street parking ramp will be unavailable beginning Tuesday, July 5. To accommodate the displacement of parkers caused by demolition of the 1st Street parking ramp, Cedar Rapids Parking has added over twenty on-street monthly permit parking spaces to the southwest side of the 2nd Avenue Bridge. When demolition is complete (the City is estimates October 2011), the on-street spaces immediately adjacent to the demolition site will be reopened for monthly parkers.
