CEDAR RAPIDS -- Delta Airlines on March 2 will add a second daily flight between The Eastern Iowa Airport and Atlanta's Hartfield International Airport.
Outbound flights will leave Cedar Rapids at 6:40 and 10:30 a.m. Inbound flights will leave Atlanta at 9:05 a.m. and 7:20 p.m.
Delta in August resumed direct flights between Atlanta and Cedar Rapids after suspending them in August 2009 following the airline's merger with Northwest Airlines when it made various changes throughout its system. Delta offered direct flights to Atlanta from Cedar Rapids from June 2006 through August 2009.
Pam Hinman, director of marketing for The Eastern Iowa Airport, said the flights between Cedar Rapids and Atlanta have been running at about 88 percent of capacity. Atlanta has been a popular destination for Eastern I0wa business and leisure travelers because it offers a wide assortment of connections to domestic and international destinations.
The Eastern Iowa Airport offers direct flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando, Phoenix-Mesa and Tampa-St. Petersburg.
