CEDAR RAPIDS -- Colleagues and friends of Jon Cushing, co-owner of Tektivity Inc., are mourning his sudden death Monday in San Diego, Calif.
An avid runner, Cushing, 56, suffered a fatal heart attack while jogging. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Cushing, executive vice president of Tektivity, and his wife, Kim, were assisting their daughter with her recent move to San Diego.
Doug Flugum, Tektivity co-owner, president and chief executive officer, formed the business with Cushing 12 year ago. Tektivity hosts and manages computer network applications and telecommunications services for many businesses in the region and the state.
Flugum, in a statement to Tektivity clients, said Cushing's contributions to the company are countless and his input will be sorely missed.
"Jon's skills in business technology application, his sense of humor and his dedication to the Boston Red Sox will be sorely missed," Flugum said. "While it was not an easy thing to do, Jon and I had taken the appropriate steps to ensure Tektivity's stability should a situation like this occur."
Cushing was active in a number of community organizations and endeavors. He was a volunteer for all but one year that the Thanksgiving meals for homebound seniors have been served at AEGON.
Among those mourning Cushing's death are members of Daybreak Rotary, where he was a member and past president.
"Jon was a very big part of daybreak and a good friend to many of us. He will be missed," said William Bogert, Daybreak Rotary president, in an email to members of the organization.
Cushing also was a member of the board of directors of the Cedar Rapids Kernels Foundation and an alumnus of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership for Five Seasons program.
He was a 1976 graduate of Coe College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in business and economics.
