Construction begins on Cedar Rapids senior living co-op

Work continues on a new $12.8 million senior living complex on Boyson Road NE at Creekside Drive NE in Cedar Rapids.

Ground was broken in January for Village Cooperative of Cedar Rapids. The three-story complex, scheduled to open in 2014, will provide 65 homes for seniors 55 years of age and older on a 4-acre site.

Village Cooperative will feature a community room with kitchen, guest suite, club room, reading areas, outdoor planting areas, wood working shop, creative arts room, fitness center and underground heated parking with car wash.

Residents will have the choice of one- or two-bedroom homes that range from 912 square feet to 1,532 square feet of living space. Each home is designed to be maintenance-free with walk-in closets, individually controlled heating and cooling system, separate laundry room, storage area and private balcony.

Real Estate Equities Development LLC of Eagan, Minn., is the developer of Village Cooperative.

The company operates similar senior living cooperatives in Cedar Falls and Clinton, with additional projects planned in Ames, Burlington and Sioux City.
