Collins Aerospace has been selected to provide large area display technology for the cockpits of future Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.
The ultra-high-definition large area display (LAD) will be used by BAE Systems as part of its rapid capability development program, Project Medulla.
The LAD will serve as a pivotal tool for pilots, consolidating critical flight data, sensor inputs and tactical information into a single, easily accessible interface.
It will use real-time data feeds from radar, targeting systems and threat detection to help pilots maintain an up-to-the-second view of battlefields, “enabling swift and precise decision-making during high-stakes engagements,” the company said in a news release.
"Our large area display for Eurofighter Typhoon cockpits represents a game-changing advancement in combat aviation," said Craig Bries, vice president and general manager of marketing, sales and aftermarket services for Collins Aerospace.
Collins, an RTX business, supplies close to 50 percent of the world's avionics displays and has more than 30 years of experience in producing high performance display products for fighter aircraft as well as trainers, bombers, helicopters, and commercial aircraft worldwide.
Collins Aerospace has 80,000 employees worldwide, with around 9,000 in Iowa. Of those, 7,000 are based in Cedar Rapids.
