City of Kalona offers naming rights to west drainage ditch on eBay

The City of Kalona has taken the unusual step of offering the naming rights to its west side drainage ditch on eBay. The auction started on December 7 and runs through December 17. The starting bid was $1 and after 22 bids, had risen to $610 by December 10.
The revenue from the auction will be used by the City toward implementing a "Safe Routes to School" project that was developed last year by the City, the Washington County Dept. of Public Health, Mid-Prairie School District, ECICOG, and a local team of volunteers. The Iowa DOT recently funded a Safe Routes to School application that will make improvements to sidewalks, street crossings, and signage to improve pedestrial accessibility to the Kalona Elementary and Middle School.
