Longtime MidWestOne Financial Group CEO Charlie Funk was injured in a biking accident in the Pender Island of British Columbia Aug. 8.
He was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to a post by his family on a Caring Bridge site.
The family posted on Friday morning that Funk has been accepted to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago for inpatient spinal cord rehabilitation.
“We hold the Funk family in our thoughts and prayers as he recovers,” MidWestOne Bank said in an email Friday.
“In an e-mail communication he sent to all employees on Aug. 15, Charlie expressed his gratitude for the care he is receiving and offered his full support to President, Chief Operating Officer, and interim Chief Executive Officer Len Devaisher, who joined the bank in 2020.”
Funk joined Iowa City-based MidWestOne in 2000 and has served as CEO since March 2008. He served as president of the company and the bank from November 2000 to July 2020.
Funk is a member of the American Bankers Association and the Community Bank Group and was a member of the board of directors of Folience, parent company of The Gazette.
