Cedar Rapids movie theater gets new dining options
May. 31, 2018 3:43 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Renovations that added new seats and dining options to a Cedar Rapids movie theater are complete about eight months after they began.
Moviegoers who head to the Marcus Cedar Rapids Cinema, 5340 Council St. NE, this weekend will see the theater in its completed form.
Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres acquired Wehrenberg Theatres and its 14 locations, which included the Council Street theater, in December 2016. The company started renovating the location last October with the installation of new reclining seats, which the company calls DreamLoungers.
Two of the theater's auditoriums also now include 'oversized” screens and heated seats.
The new dining options include Marcus Theatres' Take Five Lounge, which serves casual dining fare and drinks, and Zaffiro's Express, which serves thin-crust pizza.
Food ordered at either Take Five or Zaffiro's can be taken into the theater's auditoriums, a Marcus Theatre spokeswoman said.
The renovations did come with ticket price increases. Ticket prices rose by 75 cents once the DreamLoungers were installed, but a spokeswoman said the theater still has discount options such as $5 tickets on Tuesdays.
