After appealing an initial rejection of its bid, a Cedar Rapids contractor has been awarded a $3.3 million contract for terminal building improvements at The Eastern Iowa Airport.
Kleiman Construction Inc. on Monday was awarded a contract by the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission for construction of the Transportation Security Administration's baggage screening room in connection with a new baggage-handling system.
Kleiman's bid was initially rejected after the commission's consulting engineer, Foth Infrastructure & Environment, said the company had not met the airport's required 1 percent Disadvantaged Business Enterprise goal for the project. The goal requires that a minimum of 1 percent of a contract is handled by a small business owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.
