Other news
Small Business of the Week: U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, has announced Great Western Supply Co. of Scott County in Eastern Iowa as her small business of the week. In 1986, Collin Carney purchased the struggling Great Western Supply Co. in Burlington and expanded its offerings to meet the growing demand for janitorial and food service supplies. Under his leadership, the company has grown to include additional storefronts in Davenport and Marion. Today, Carney and his team of nearly 30 workers across three Iowa communities ensure that building managers have the tools they need to keep their buildings safe and sanitary. Carney also gives back to the community through his work with One Eighty, a faith-based nonprofit that provides residential recovery programs for individuals in crisis, poverty, and addiction. He employs several One Eighty residents, providing meaningful work and fostering a positive, family-oriented team culture. Ernst, chair of the Senate’s Small Business Committee, is naming one exceptional small business of the week in each of Iowa’s counties during this congressional session.
