Other news
Grand opening: Community Savings Bank has announced it will have a grand opening of its new Cedar Rapids location, at 100 First Ave. NE #116, on Dec. 10. There will be a ribbon-cutting at 4 p.m. and open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Appetizers and refreshments will follow the ribbon-cutting.
Small Business of the Week: U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, has announced Paullina Hardware of O’Brien County in northwest Iowa as her small business of the week. In 2018, Eric and Heidi Brown purchased Weidaman’s True Value Hardware. Now known as Paullina Hardware, the Browns continue more than 50 years of service in Eric’s hometown of Paullina. In 2025, they expanded by acquiring the former Shea’s True Value Hardware in Primghar as their second location. Beyond hardware, the business provides bike repairs and offers recreational rentals, including kayaks and paddleboards. Most recently, the Browns introduced coffee equipment and home-brewing education, helping residents craft quality coffee at home and bringing neighbors together in meaningful ways. Ernst, chair of the Senate’s Small Business Committee, is naming one exceptional small business of the week in each of Iowa’s counties during this congressional session.
