New hires
Dr. Michael Slavin has joined MercyCare Nephrology in Cedar Rapids.
Promotions
Eric Melloy and Monica Hayes are new partners of Lepic-Kroeger Realtors in Iowa City. Melloy is the firm’s managing broker; Hayes is the principal agent with the Monica Hayes Team. The firm’s other partners are Jeff Dill, Mike Jensen, Rich Hatch and Terri Larson.
Veridian Credit Union has announced the promotion of Steve Klein to vice president of branches. Klein has 21 years of experience at the credit union, serving most recently as regional manager.
Appointments
Andy Hodge, of Hodge Construction, has been elected president of the Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association for 2024. Hodge, of Solon, is a graduate of Iowa State University in construction engineering and worked for JE Dunn Construction in Kansas City before returning home to join the family business.

SKOGMAN REBRANDS REMODELING BUSINESS: Skogman Companies has combined its two remodeling companies — D&B Remodeling and Home Repair Team — into a single brand, Skogman Remodeling and Repair.
Brian Becwar, general manager of Skogman Remodeling and Repair, said combining the two remodeling companies “allows us to maximize efficiency, which translates into the best possible pricing and service for our customers. It also allows us to bring together our highly skilled and valued employees under one brand in one location.”
Skogman plans to retain all its remodeling employees and combine its operation into one Corridor location in 2024. Additional information is at skogmanremodeling.com.
DUPACO SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: The Dupaco Foundation scholarship program will award $60,000 to 30 first-year and current college and community college/trade school students in 2024. Details and the application are at dupaco.com/scholarships. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 14.
ERNST BUSINESS OF THE WEEK: Tillie’s Quilts of Webster County was the “Small Business of the Week” as recognized last week by U.S. Sen. Johni Ernst, R-Iowa, the ranking member on the Senate’s Small Business Committee. Jo Seltz opened the quilt store in downtown Fort Dodge in 2011, naming it after her great aunt, Matilda “Tillie” Jacobs, who gave Seltz her first quilt. Ernst is recognizing a small business each week in Iowa’s 99 counties.
