An Eastern Iowa agricultural entertainment destination is expanding its ability to host educational and team-building sessions throughout the year.
Bloomsbury Farm, 3260 69th St. in Atkins, is completing construction of the Sugar Shack, a 4,000-square-foot building that will house a year-round meeting center, candy and coffee shop, and a gift shop.
Karen Petersen, co-owner of Bloomsbury Farm, said the Sugar Shack will be open by Labor Day.
"This new construction is coming just in time for our fall season that attracts tens of thousands of people each year," Petersen said. "This offers our guests another level of service and accommodates our growing pains when it comes to corporate meetings and events."
The Sugar Shack follows on the heels of the construction of a zipline at the Atkins farm.
Bloomsbury Farm is open to the public every day in September and October, and by appointment for events in the spring.
Along with its zipline, Bloomsbury Farm, which opened in the mid-1990s, features two corn mazes, Barnyard Buddies, Barrel Train, Corn Box, Corn Cannon, Corn Maze, Grandma's Playhouse, Haunted Barn, Hayrack Rides, Jumping Pillow, Kid's Maze, Learning Barn, Pedal Carts, Pig Races, Pumpkin Cannon, Pumpkin Grill & Café, Pumpkin Patch, Straw Jump, Tire Maze, Dry Creek Paintball and Western Town.
