BBB, CRB&T to host free document shredding this weekend

Business owners and the general public will have the chance to get rid of old documents and protect their identities this weekend.

The Better Business Bureau in Cedar Rapids is partnering with Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust to offer free document shredding Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to noon in the bank's parking lot, 500 First Ave. NE. Shredding is free to the public.

Shredding old documents both saves physical space and reduces the possibility of one's identity being stolen by a thief that takes an intact document from a garbage or recycling bin. The Federal Trade Commission reported taking 371,000 Americans reported a case of identity theft to local, state or federal law enforcement agencies in 2017, with almost a third being credit cards being fraudulently opened.
