DUBUQUE — Avelo Airlines has announced it will begin flying at Dubuque Regional Airport on March 22.
Avelo, a Houston-based low-cost carrier, will operate nonstop service between Dubuque and the Orlando International Airport on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The airline had intended to start its Dubuque-Orlando service Jan. 11, but the Dubuque airport had not secured Transportation Security Administration approval of its airport security plan.
The carrier instead flew its twice-weekly service out of The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.
Free bus service will be provided passengers on March 22, 25 and 29 who need to return to the Cedar Rapids airport.
“We’re excited to finally begin service at Dubuque,” Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said. “We know traveling to another airport was frustrating. … We can’t wait to begin providing our customers with the convenient and smooth travel experience they want.”
Dubuque Regional Airport Chair Mike Phillips said the airport was “truly thankful” to be part of the Avelo network. “Orlando is our most popular leisure destination.”
Customers with upcoming reservations on Avelo can visit AveloAir.com/DBQ-INFO for more information.
